By: Reiss Leonard

After coming off a season full of injuries, GrassRoots caught up with U Motors pilot, Alex Bouton, as he was getting back on pace for a strong end to the season.  He went for a 2nd overall in Thief River Falls, MN the weekend before we interviewed him in the 85cc 7-11 class ahead of Logan Swanson, one of the GR’s recently covered Prospects. He battled all year with the rest of the GR Prospects setting up an even bigger class of kids running up the ranks.

Where are you from?

Holley, MN

Which grade are you in right now?

5th grade

Alex, how long have you been racing?

Ever since I was 4 or 5, so about 5 yrs.

What kind of bikes have you rode so far in your young career?

KTM 50, RM  65 and now my YZ 85.

Which classes and area do you normally ride?

Um, I race kinda all over North Dakota and Minnesota. I usually do Super Mini if they have it, 85 7 to 11 and 85 Open if they have it.

I heard you injured yourself early this summer, tell me about that?

It was in Jamestown during the second moto, I was in second place and I hit a kicker, broke my wrist and a little after that I fractured my ankle.

Have you adjusted well to your Leatt Brace?

Yeah it felt a little weird at first, but now it is ok. I have not worn it twice now and both times I crashed my brains out! It makes me feel safer, so…

What other hobbies do you have besides motocross?

I race pedal bikes, thinking about football this year but I decided not to, I skateboard a lot and pedal bikes around the house over jumps and stuff. Snowboard in the winter, ski, and I really enjoy that. Sometimes we go on a fishing trip that’s mostly it.

You also like to do Harescrambles right?

Um I’ve done one in Carlsten, it really doesn’t have a name but my brother calls it the bear cave. The swamp fox, the holy cow! Actually one year they had cows there. Then there is one in a town called Walhalla, it’s probably one of the toughest harescrambles around they call it the Last Man Standing.

Who is your favorite Racer?

Um, Chad Reed cause he was on Yamahas but now he is on Suzuki, but I still like him.

Do you have a girlfriend?

No!

Who would you like to thank?

Um, University Motors, Powerband Suspension, Lemke Home Improvements, and my dad.
