Thanksgiving
Steve Drewlo
Happy
Thanksgiving Pilgrims!
Ahhh yes, Thanksgiving, the holiday where you can eat enough turkey
and take in enough tryptophan to put a charging buffalo to sleep.
Call me crazy or call me
whacky but there is something about the holiday of Thanksgiving that
reminds me to give thanks for everything in life.
Go figure.

As
I reminisce about blessings and things to be thankful for, I am
thankful for the many things the Lord has blessed me with such as
family, friends, Church, health, job, etc…
As I am sure many of you have
similar things to be thankful for.
But, since this is a dirt cycle related publication I will
steer that direction with my thanks.
This year at the NDMA banquet, it all
kind of hit me on how thankful I am for having MX as a part of my
life. Yeah, I admit it.
I got kind of choked up during a couple of the speeches.
But hey, I’m an emotional guy.
I wept when Old Yeller died.
I ball during episodes of Intervention and Xtreme Home
Makeover. I always need
a box of tissues when I watch the Notebook.
But as the great author Jack Handy says – “It takes a big man
to cry…but it takes an even bigger man to make fun of that man.”
Like I tried to spit out up there on stage, I’ve been racing
this series for 16 years now and I can’t imagine what I would have
done with out it. This
sport has allowed me to meet people and see places I would never
have had the opportunity to do otherwise.
For that I am thankful.
Up until this year I had never even won
a single state championship.
I’ve choked a few away and have finished second, third,
fourth and fifth plenty of times.
For some reason, things fell together this year.
I’ll be the first to admit that I was not the fastest guy out
there. All I try to do
is ride with some heart and put up a fight for every position until
the checkers.
And with that I have some
people to thank for making this year successful.
With out them it would not
have been possible.
First and foremost the good Lord for all the blessings, my wife for
supporting my habits, the Berg, the Mautz and Hirschkorn families
for all the help at the track with watching our daughter Hazel.
Also thanks to the crew at Cycle Hutt for always having any
parts I need at the last minute.
Thanks go out to these fine companies for the support this
year too – DB Customs, RidePG.com, Motorex, Dunlop, MX-Tech and EVS.
Happy Thanksgiving and
remember not to drive or operate machinery for at least an hour
after taking in all the tryptophan from the ginormous amount of
turkey you eat. You may
end up asleep at the wheel.
